How to index your website on GoogleMaaz Habib
Want to know how to index your website?
This guide is for you then
Your website is invisible if Google does not index your website. This means that if your website is not visible on search engines like Google, it is impossible for you to attract targeted traffic and improve rankings. Your website will not be shown in the search queries. However, first of all, it is important to understand what indexing and crawling are.
What do we mean by indexing and crawling?
Search engines like Google crawl different websites and then add them into their index. They crawl through the websites using Googlebot. Googlebot is Google’s web spider which is a software specially made to perform the process of crawling. Crawling means that Google is discovering new and unique content on your website with the help of hyperlinks. Once Google comes across a new content on your website, it indexes it; meaning its adds that web page into its database so it can appear in search queries. However, you do not need your site to be indexed just once, it requires to be indexed again and again. As you publish new content on your websites the spiders crawl through your website looking for new content and update the previously indexed version of your website.
Indexing and ranking are two different points. Indexing is about showing up in the database along with million other websites. Whereas ranking is becoming a part of top searches in Google search engine.
Why is indexing important?
The ultimate purpose of websites is to attract traffic towards them. The majority of the traffic that comes to your website is through search engines like Google. Approximately 90% of the traffic on your web pages is passed on by Google that is why indexing your website on Google is highly important. Once your website is indexed by Google, the visibility of your website will automatically increase subsequently generating more targeted traffic.
How to Index your website?
If you get to know that your website is not indexed on Google, follow these steps;
- Open Google Search Console
- Click on the URL inspection tool on the left side
- Enter your website domain in the search box you want to index
- Wait for the results.
- If the URL is not on Google, click on “Request Indexing” button shown on the bottom right.
By following these steps, you will be telling Google that you have published something new on your website. Indexing is very important for SEO. It does not matter how good of a website you have, as long as Google has not indexed it, it is of no use.
Avoid these things while indexing
However, there are some of the issues you need to avoid while indexing your website. These issues will not let your website to be indexed by Google. Firstly, make sure that your website does not include tags to broken links. If the page on your website does not load, it will not get indexed. If your website has a broken link, it is less likely for Google to crawl through the page and index it. Secondly, avoid having on-page SEO issues. It is important to ensure that the website does not have any plagiarized content. Avoid writing duplicate title tags because for Google duplicate title tags means copied content. Similarly, the meta descriptions for each web page should be different. Lastly, avoid having multiple canonical links on one page and instead build high-quality backlinks. Building high-quality backlinks show Google the importance of your page. With high-quality links, it is more likely for Google to crawl through the websites.
Finally, there might be two major reasons why Google is not indexing your website;
- Either your website has some technical inconsistencies and issues
- Or your website has low-quality content
Just always remember to publish high quality and valuable content and use efficient SEO strategies. Always check if your website is indexed or not. If it’s not and the process of indexing is becoming problematic, you must check for inconsistencies and issues on your website.
